Well I'm thinking about having a small kayak fishing competition on the 24th, but before I dive in I wanna make sure It can happen.

Basically I need to know who would be interested on a small scale kayak fishing tournament, starting at 6-7am at the beach by the jumeirah palm, ending around noon. Of course you can stop and submit a fish earlier, or take breaks. I'm sure no one would like to paddle for 6hrs. It would have a small entrance fee of 50-100 dhs depending on what I can get as a prize, most likely first would be a rod, 2nd, and 3rd some tackle (lures, box, various fishing tools). Its non profit and the entrance money is just paying for the prizes. After we could have a bbq or something of the likes and get a chance to talk to people from the forums and share some knowledge.

I really want to get a small regular competition going, mainly because tournament angling is really fun, and there are very few small ones here in the middle east.

Also its not limited to kayak fisherman, its completely fair to enter from the shore, although the kayaks will most likely win. Also if you want to fish from the shore your more than welcome to come on down and say hi to the boys.

Plus everyone knows one of the best parts of angling is catching the biggest fish

Forgot to post this.

Rules:
- No motors, or anything of the likes. Pure paddling, shorefishing, or sailing if you think you can pull it off =p.
- Entry fee is required.
- One prize per person (if you catch the two biggest fish, the biggest is the only one that counts)
- You MUST catch the fish, no hitting up the fish market beforehand =p
- You can enter as a team if your on the same kayak, although shore fishing is solo.
- If a fish is obviously still in its youth throw it back, or it doesn't count. Its hard to give exact numbers, but its pretty much common sense, if your kingfish is just barely over a foot it does not count. This may be annoying at times, but we all want to fish again next year, and its just a matter of personal morals.
- If you can give a photo of your fish hanging freely from a scale with a datestamp, it counts.
- No illegal means of fishing (nets, ray ropes, dynamite =p)

It would also be nice if someone could find out or post if they know the rules on bbq's at that beach.

Good Plan ... now to get a kayak :-)

No bbqing on the beaches of Dubai anymore . most of them have the municipality signboards put up. If caught, apparantly there is a penalty ... but not sure about it . I have been stopped once at the mamzar beach.
