Hi
There's been talk af a weekend kayak fishing trip in Musandam, with the idea of camping overnight on a suitable beach.
Ive only been to the place once and it looks like it could be a fantastic trip. My thoughts are that maybe we could start at Khasab or Khor Najde and get a local fisherman (not much is accessible for road) to take all the camping supplies to a destination beach within paddling distance.
That way we could cover more ground rather than returning to a base at the end of the first day.
Just my initial thoughts - let me know what you all think and if you're interested.
May be plan it for end of November early December.

Count me in, need some "points" too, there might also be a complication of a possible trip home to australia but we'll deal with that if and when! Thanks for getting the ball rolling Paul, cheers, Dave.

Sounds good. When I kayaked Khor Najd, there was red tide and we still had a good day, so if we can hit it when it is clear, I reckon we could catch some excellent fish. I have seen half of Khor Najd exploding from tuna before. End of Nov / Dec sounds good, and I like the idea of getting the stuff dropped off somewhere. Lets put together some ideas. Off to Ras Mad next weekend, and really hoping to get into some decent Bluefish, and maybe have a go at a permit. Dave, I hear you are fishing the comp.....should be a fun day out!!!
Catch up soon

Hi Guys
Ive spoken with a tour operator in Khasab.
They say that there is a beach suitable for camping 10km from Khasab port - they would be able to take our stuff there and back - cost would be 500 AED each way. I also asked about beaches near Khor Najde, however as they have to start from Khasab port the journey is some 3 hours (they say) and the cost is going to be prohibitive - they wouldnt even quote for it. I'm sure it would be cheaper to get a local fisherman to take our stuff, but I dont know any or any beaches for that matter.
This approach might be a bit more reliable (rather than chancing a local guy to take our stuff and bring it back) - we could even consider an option of camping for 2 nights and using the beach as a base to explore and fish. I've had a quick look on google earth and 10km from Khasab takes you to some pretty remote and interesting spots.
My next step is to buy a good detailed map of the area - why am I finding it so hard to get one?
thanks Paul

Hi Paul, decent maps are hard to find for any place over here. Google Earth seems to be the best bet, I use it for planning off road drives together with a gps. Khor Najd seems to be a 20km drive from Khasab with a track all the way. It looks pretty straightforward (assuming everyone has 4wd) with the exception perhaps of the final descent which seems to drop 330m over a few kms of switchbacks. Driving to Khor Najd could therefore be an option if all have 4wd. No need to rely on someone else's boat then, especially for the return trip!

Hi Graeme
I've driven to Khor Najde before and you're right, its fairly easly from Khasab, I didnt go to the beach at the bottom so I can't confim what it would be like for an overnight option - but it looks fairly rocky - Beefy can tell us.
Ive plotted some points from Khasab - I'll have to confirm with the people in Khasab where they would intend to drop our camping gear if we decied to take that option. I just quite liked the idea of finding a completely inaccessible beach and camping for a night or two.
If everyone wants to put forward their ideas and preferences, we can start firming up the trip details. Does anyone have date in November/December that they can't make?
Paul

To be honest the second beach you have pointed out is in the huge khor which goes up towards telegraph island. Thus it is very sheltered by currents, and I am not convinced by the number of fish there. I have been up to telegraph island several times, and have never seen fish there. I have seen activity just off the beach 5 km from Khasab, but this area is often fill of boats, dhows etc. so might be a little choppy.
You can camp at Khor Najd, and can get down in a sedan....my mate did it easily in a VW convertible. The shore is rocky, and often there are others there who are little noisy. I am sure we can get a local fisherman to take us our stuff up to the beaches off Khor Najd, or if we could get them to take us further up past the Khor entrance out of Khasab, this would be a better option.
Still need to look into dates etc. and also after weekend to Ras Mad, might be difficult to get a green card, but keep me in the loop re: possible weekends.

Hi Paul, Agree that an isolated beach to ourselves would be great, definitely on for that. Good to know that driving is a possibility too. The weekend of 20/21 November is the only one that doesn't suit me (parents arriving on holiday). Oh yes, and it would perhaps be best if I was at home on Christamas Day and Boxing Day too
